My NaNoWriMo Project

So, you may be wondering what NaNoWriMo is. I have mentioned it a few times, but not really explained it.

Well, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It takes place all November and it’s basically a crazy challenge where a bunch of writers write 50K words (aka. A novel) in a month.

That’s why I have been preparing a lot in the past few weeks. But what exactly is my NaNoWriMo project? I have talked a little bit about it, posted short stories I wrote for it, and a bunch of other stuff, but now I GET TO REVEAL THE TITLE AND THE COVER FOR IT!

So, without further ado, my NaNoWriMo project!

    The Search for Alis

***

Broken.

That’s all R has ever been, despite trying to put on a smile. She’s lost all hope that the world could get better. She’s just a girl cursed with pink hair. But she never expected that curse to be the key to finding the light in the darkness. When she finds a pair of wings on her back, will she take the leap and fly, even if that means giving up everything and everyone she ever cared about?

Desperate.

Elias tried. At the very least, he tried despite giving up his honor and lying to his sister. Despite being a thief. He never wanted anyone to know, but lies never last. What can he do when R doesn’t trust him anymore? When he has no choice but to leave the only place where he could keep her safe? Just remember, it’s not over yet.

Together.

It’s a choice to conquer together. To pull against the strains of the world and push through till the end. To find the light at the end of the tunnel. Can R and Elias find a way to fly…together?

I got the idea for this story at a writers’ conference I went to in August. It was a past idea I had, originally going to be used in another project, but I ended up scrapping the idea.

Now I am using it in my novel!

The novel’s two main characters are Elias and R Atara. They are siblings who are secretly winged-people called Kalria and they don’t even know it. They live in a city that is hidden from the rest of the Earth and are trapped there.

The main messages of the story are hope, trust, and light, which are some of my favorite topics to write about.

It’s a YA contemporary/fantasy novel. It’s one of the first official full-on YA novels I have done, since most of my past projects have been more on the middle grade side. But I am super excited for November, when I can start writing this project! And keep an eye out for more short stories I wrote for this project! (I have a whole stash of them XD)

Until next time,

  1. Wellity well! Looks like you decided to make R’s (pronounced /Ru/) story a bigger thing! Pink hair isn’t your typical curse, must admit, but I’m interested to see how it’s key to divining 𝐎𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐧 from 𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺 – I see more of your winged people turning up in this! Anyone else I ought to follow for this NaNoWriMo jamboree?
