Writer Interview: Emily Sweeney

Hello everyone! I got an amazing chance to interview Emily Sweeney! She was so fun to talk to and get to know! I hope you enjoy the interview!

  • Tell us a little bit about yourself and your writing journey!

Of course! I am Emily Sweeney, an artist and a writer, trying to glorify my Savior in everything I do. If I’m not at my desk writing fantasy stories or doing some form of art, you’ll usually find me playing with my siblings, cooking, practicing Spanish, or researching horses!

  • How long have you been writing?

Not long, actually! I began writing seriously sometime last year, and I had written several short stories off and on before then, but my writing only really kicked into gear recently!

  • Where are you in your writing journey right now? And what are you currently working on?

I haven’t gone far on my writing journey yet, and I’m expecting I have many years ahead of me. Right now I’m only beginning to dip my feet in the water, exploring the incredible world of writing and having fun with it!

Currently I have two WIP’s going, one is a novel I am preparing to write for NaNoWriMo this year and the other is a novelette I’m working on, Friend of the Wolves. It is in the editing stage right now and I aim to finish it in the next two months.

The story is about a young man who finds himself in the middle of a raging war after making it his mission to find and rescue his brother after the tyrannical king banished him to the Mountain of the Wolves, who are the sworn enemies of his people.

  • What is your favorite part about writing?

Hmmm… I think my favorite part about writing is the editing and characters! I love the process of seeing my messy draft finally begin to turn into something beautiful! Editing may be time consuming and takes a lot of work, but it’s so satisfying to know that I’ve put in months of hard labor into writing and now my story is on the road to completion!

  • Who are your favorite writers?

Ooooh… I have a LOT of favorite writers! I love Kaitlyn Phillips, author of World of Silence, I’d say she’s my top favorite! Next on the list of amazing writers is Grace Sweeney – my wonderful sister!

( And don’t even get me started on Kara Swanson, C.S. Lewis, Allie Lynn… J.R.R. Tolkien and all those other great authors out there!)

  • What is one piece of advice you would give other writers?

Don’t give up.

I have learned this lesson many times already! Writing is a long, hard journey and some days you’ll want to trash your plot or characters and start over, others your writing will look like nails on a chalkboard to you and you’ll feel like quitting. But don’t get discouraged. Every writer has its challenges, and if you push through you will achieve your dreams.

  • What resources have helped you in your writing?

I can’t say I’ve used many resources. My main writing assistant has been my sister! She’s much more experienced in writing than I am, and because of that I usually go to her for help and advice!

  • Where can we find you online?

You can find me on my blog, Made for This!

  • Anything else you would like to add?

Not really, other than saying thank you for taking the time to interview me! Keep writing, always perseveire and never give up on your dreams!

Until next time,
